Today's e-news is in tribute to Donna who passed away last week, leaving 4 young children. I didn't know Donna well, she was a year behind me at Te Awamutu College, but I know her death will reverberate throughout the waikato community, the word cancer very much on the minds of everyone.
Cancer is a highly emotive disease - people only need to hear the 'C' word to become filled with fear. While the authorities continue to pump vast amounts of money into funding and researching cancer drugs, it is a great shame that the authorities do not make the same investment into authentic ways to prevent cancer. Prevention is always better than cure. Once cancer has taken hold within someone, fighting the fire through chemo/radiation/natural treatment is paramount and we are grateful for the methods that are available. But this fire fighting is not the only or best long term solution, particularly when the cancerous 'fire' has a tendency to reignite if not healed properly. Perhaps one day there will be a magic and convenient bullet that effectively eliminates this disease, but in the meantime cancer rates are on the increase in all age groups, including our children.
If we truly want to reduce the number of cancer-induced funerals we attend, including attendance at our own, we need to rise to this health challenge ourselves and be a revolutionary in our own lives and that of our family. We are in a time of widespread revolution actually, and meaningful shifts are occurring in many facets of life. Worthy of note, is that many of the most significant revolutions are being led by everyday people and not the elected 'leaders' of society: - mothers working to prevent untimely deaths of our children through suicide and drunk drivers; communities within politically unstable countries, standing up to oust dictatorships that perpetuate an unsafe and inequal environment for their families; ordinary people who value the animal kingdom and environment and who are taking action themselves to ensure their preservation, no longer able to wait for the legislators to take better care of those intrinsic assets that we require for a high quality life; and women survivors of some of the worse crimes against humanity who are slowly but effectively creating meaningful change in the historically 'taboo' areas of sex trafficking, genital mutilation and honour killings. Everyday people are making meaningful change. And we can too in regard to cancer, by getting educated so that we can simply take better care of ourselves and our loved ones.
Keeping our immune system strong is imperative to this anti-cancer cause, for it is our immune system that identifies cancerous cells and eliminates them. This detection and deletion process is a naturally occurring mechanism, built within the design of our physical body to help us stay vital. We are designed to enjoy positive health. While the authorities are largely ignoring this pro-active means to reduce cancer statistics, we don't have to.
The immune system is adversely affected either directly or indirectly by a number of factors. Below is a list of some of the most significant factors. ANY change for the better is an greater investment for life. One of the following areas might particularly catch your eye. Start there and find ways to increasingly anchor it into your life:
- chemically aware living - low and zero chemical cleaning products, shampoos, conditioners, hair dyes, lotions, makeup, personal hygiene products, garden sprays/fertlisers; etc
- a more natural, seasonal diet - eg. less artificial preservatives, additives, flavourings - and more whole foods with fibre, protein, antioxidants, glyconutrients, beneficial oils. Also, eating according to your unique bodys' needs;
- duration/proximity of electromagnetic gadgets to your body, especially sensitive areas of the groin and brain - cell phones in pockets, talking for extended periods on the cell, electric clocks near head, lap tops directly on the lap, etc;
- if cancer runs in your family, learn about the body part/s that is susceptible to cancer, what it's function is, how it works, what influences it for the better and for worse and support it to be healthy instead of cancer-prone .... you can help to change your family's health history, genetic patterns can be changed;
- And last but not least .... identifying/resolving/minimising sources of unhappiness, things that are eating away at you, low self-belief. The mind-body relationship is very real and the most significant factor to align if we are to enjoy a truly satisfying life. Repetitive low thoughts and emotions reduce lifeforce energy, lower cellular oxygen and cause the elimination organs such as the bowel, lungs and lymphatics to contract, significantly reducing the release of toxins from the body and therefore burdening the immune system.
Making positive adjustments in your life should be done not from the intention to avoid cancer or disease, but from a mindset of increasing the quality of your life. The rise of the wellness movement is part of the revolutionary shift mentioned at the beginning of this e-news. As we look more holistically around us - as we look more broadly, more completely at life, at ourselves and our abilities - thousands of people worldwide are achieving a whole new level of health and wellbeing. Just as it used to be believed that the earth was flat, I firmly believe that the prevalence of discomfort, disease and misery that exists in our world today, will be spoken about with disbelief by future generations. We today, are the ones that are at the beginning stages of changing this belief, understanding and experience of life here. We are the game changers!
Is there an area in your life that you are ready to rise to? Small but appropriate changes truly produce meaningful results. Should you desire my guidance on anything mentioned here, I look forward to seeing you. Enjoy the sun (:
Kia ora - be well!
